Tips For Effective Communication With Your Legislator
1. Tell Them Who You Are
- Write legibly, including all the information they need to get back to you.
2. Tell Them What You Want
- Contact about one bill or subject at a time and include the name and/or number of legislation you are interested in.
3. Come Across Clear, Concise and Courteous
- Give reasons for your opinion, say it in your own words and say it in a courteous way.
4. Get A Response
- Ask the legislator to support or oppose the subject or bill you are contacting them about.
- Request their position and make sure their response gives it.
- Don’t be afraid to ask again, if the first answer is generic or non-committal.
