PROGRAMS
The Area Agency on Aging provides several programs to assist older adults, families and professionals about a wide array of topics including health insurance, information and referral to senior community services, senior training and employment, and long term care service options. Even though the programs listed below are a core part of what we do, we are still involved in many other projects that further the mission of the agency. If you would like to know more about the programs listed below please feel free to contact us.
Caregiver Support Mini-Grant Program
Once again the Southeastern Wisconsin Area Agency on Aging (SEWAAA) is pleased to announce the availability of mini-grant money of $500 - $2,500 for collaborations to effectively identify and provide resources to family caregivers throughout the communities of Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties. The Mini-Grant Program is intended to address the growing needs of family caregivers here in Southeastern Wisconsin. A portion of the Older American Act/National Family Caregiver Support Program funds are utilized for these mini-grants to increase awareness and address concerns of access. All projects must support opportunities that emphasize the strengths of the family caregiver and seek to build upon existing resources. To get the application, click HERE.
Older Americans Act and State Aging Funds
We administer federal Older Americans Act and state aging funds, monitor and evaluate programs and services using those funds, and advocate on behalf of people 60 years of age and over within the six-county Planning and Service Area (PSA) which includes Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties.
State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)
This program offers one-on-one counseling and assistance to people with Medicare and their families. Through federal grants directed to the state and then to us, we provide free counseling and assistance via telephone and face-to-face interactive sessions, public education presentations and programs, and media activities.
Information and Referral (I&R)
This program brings people and services together. We maintain and provide information for programs and services that are available to older adults in their community.
Wisconsin Senior Employment Program (WISE)
This is an employment/training program for low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55 years and older. The program provides subsidized, part-time work experience for a limited time through community service to obtain the skills necessary for permanent employment. Participants in the program learn new skills and talents, or enhance existing ones, through valuable work experience and other training to become competitive in today's workforce.
Enrollment Consultant Program
For eligible people who want to enroll in Family Care, an enrollment consultant speaks with the person by phone or in person to make sure he or she fully understands what it means to receive health and long-term care services from a managed care program.
